Products from natural fluff are very warm and cozy. In addition, most downy shawls are true works of art. Openwork, light and at the same time warming, downy shawls are the favorite subject of any woman’s wardrobe. In modern fashion, the downy shawl takes its rightful place - this season it is fashionable to wear small knitted scarves of down on the neck. But happiness does not last long. The shawl is polluted and needs to be washed from time to time. And here a washing machine can not do.
So, how to wash a downy shawl so that it does not lose its shape, color and softness?
Preparatory stage
Some skilled workers after washing dry a scarf as follows. They simply put the edges of the handkerchief on the cloves to stretch it during drying. However, this is not very convenient. First, thin threads of a scarf can be damaged by nails. And secondly, scarves come in different sizes, do you really need to redo the frame every time?
We will offer you a more convenient option. Take a thick kapron thread. Tie the end to a pin. Using a pin, thread the thread through each clove. One end of the thread needs to be pulled out a little, and the other should be left on a skein - its length will still come in handy.
After that, straighten the scarf and carefully comb it down, trying not to touch the canvas. This is best done with a massage comb.
Washing
Wash downy shawl should be carefully. Please note that in the wash basin there should be no burrs for which the scarf can catch. Use soap or shampoo for washing. Usually, downy products are washed in warm water so that they do not skukozhilis.
If your handkerchief stretched and became huge, you can reduce it with hot water. Dip it for a few seconds in hot water, but not in boiling water. After that, wash the scarf, as usual. If the product is white, you can use bleach. It will help to eliminate the yellow tint and give the scarf a white color.
If blood is spilled on the shawl, it can be withdrawn as follows. Dilute several aspirin tablets in water and pour a stain over it. It will quickly dissolve.
After washing, rinse the scarf in acetic water. To do this, in warm water, add a couple of tablespoons of vinegar. This is done in order to give the down product softness.
Gently and gently squeeze a handkerchief, without twisting or deforming it.
Drying
After washing, straighten the knitted product and start putting it on the frame. The frame must be in a horizontal position. In each gap between the teeth of the shawl you have a thread. It should be thrown over the carnations. So, step by step, you need to stretch the shawl over the frame. When all the teeth are hooked, and the scarf will resemble a trampoline stretched in all directions, you need to give the scarf elasticity. That is, it needs to be stretched well, so that after drying the product is elastic and fresh, like new. To do this, pull each clove closer to the frame. You can adjust the tension by winding the thread on the stud. Make sure that all the tips of the teeth are at the same level, because after drying the scarf will look exactly like you will leave it on the frame.
After that, carefully comb the shawl while still raw. In general, craftswomen comb a handkerchief with a special “comic”. It is a regular brush with metal bristles. Please note that there should be no burrs and clinging hooks on the brush. In the stretched position, the handkerchief is easy to tear, moreover, it will quickly and irretrievably spread out. You can comb a handkerchief with an ordinary household brush or comb.Comb the product on the frame in such a way as if you want to get the fluff out of its structure. This will make the shawl even more fluffy and soft.
If you don’t have a frame, but you still want to wash a handkerchief, after washing it should be laid out on a cloth, for example, on a sheet. Carefully lay out the handkerchief so that there are no wrists and bends on it. Every half hour you need to change the sheet to dry and shake the handkerchief. But such drying is very bad for the appearance of the shawl - it loses its fluffiness and elasticity. Perhaps it is easier to give a handkerchief for washing the craftswoman who has such a frame?
Final stage
To keep the down scarf in its original form, you need to wash it as little as possible. Therefore, it must be treated carefully - do not throw anywhere, properly stored. To save the down scarf until the next winter, it must be rolled up and put into a fabric pouch. Next to the scarf you need to put a piece of moth or just a sprig of mint. The moth is afraid of sharp odors and will not touch the handkerchief.
The shawl is a real handicraft work that you need to appreciate and wear with pleasure. Proper washing of the shawl will help you maintain its appearance and enjoy the warm knitted thing for many years.
