 How to clean brass

Salt and vinegar

Pour into a saucepan 3.5-4 liters of filtered water, add 45 grams. crushed sea salt without fragrances and 250 ml. Table vinegar (concentration 9%). Put the composition on the stove, boil, reduce heat, put the brass in a container and simmer for 4 hours. The solution will boil, so every hour pour new composition: dilute 30 ml.acetic solution in 350 ml. clean water. During boiling undesirable shades will disappear, it remains only to polish the product for more brilliance.

Lime

Combine in one composition 55 gr. baking soda and 45 ml. filtered water, mix. Type a little money on the kitchen sponge (soft side), wipe polluted places. Leave on for 10–15 minutes, then take 1 ripe lime. Cut it into two parts, wipe the brass with a pulp, wait half an hour. At the end of the period, remove the residues from the filtered water and wipe the brass with the second half of the citrus. If necessary, the procedure can be repeated infinitely, as a rule, the result is achieved in a short time (1-2 times).

Yogurt

Perhaps the cleaning of brass - the only circumstance that requires non-natural composition. Get low-quality yogurt with a high content of lactic acid in the store Place the brass in a container with yogurt, cover with lid and wait about 40 minutes. After the expiration date, wash the product with water, wipe with a soft cotton cloth. Lactic acid destroys tumors and the walls of the stomach, it is for this reason that eating such yogurt is harmful, but it is ideal for cleaning brass.

Vinegar and flour

Mix 200 ml.filtered water with 250 ml. vinegar solution (9%), add rye flour in such a way as to make a viscous dough. Moisten the object of brass in boiling water, leave for 10 minutes. After that, put the dough on the product in large quantities, wait until the composition is completely dry. Rinse the mass with water, wipe with a soft cloth and polish. The tool is more suitable for cleaning brass products, which is dominated by copper, not zinc.

Lemon and salt

 Lemon and salt
Cut into small pieces of 1-2 lemons depending on the size of the product and the degree of contamination. Pass them through a blender or meat grinder several times to make porridge. Now add fine food salt at the rate of 25 gr. on 1 citrus fruit, cover the container with food film and wait about half an hour. At the end of time, put the brass in the mixture, re-wrap the container with polyethylene, wait at least 40 minutes. Moisten a cosmetic tampon in lemon juice and wipe the product, do not wash it off with water, polish it.

Ketchup

As in the case of yogurt, ketchup should contain a maximum of preservatives, but a minimum of flavors and colors. Apply it on the soft side of the kitchen sponge, evenly spread over the entire surface of the brass object, leave for a quarter of an hour. After that, remove the composition with a cloth from a hard pile, an old cotton towel will do. If the product assumes the presence of small parts, rinse the brass with boiling water, then wipe dry with a cotton cloth.

Oxalic acid

  1. Carefully review all the cleaning products that are available in the house for the presence in the column "Composition" of oxalic acid. When you find a suitable option, wear gloves, apply the product to the product, wait about a quarter of an hour. At the end of the period, take the brass in your hands, turn on the tap with warm water and walk on the surface of the old toothbrush. Make sure that the pressure is weak, it should not wash off the entire composition at a time. Next, you need to prepare a mixture of soda and water in a ratio of 1: 2, then put the product there or cover it with a rich layer. The exposure time in this case ranges from 7 to 15 minutes, it all depends on the degree of contamination. Rinse with cold water, polish brass. At the end of the manipulation, the subject may acquire a darker shade.
  2. This method involves the processing of brass products with oxalic acid solution. To cook it dissolve 70 gr. acids in 4.5 liters of water, if desired, you can reduce the proportions by half. Put the brass product in a container with a solution and observe the process. When the oxide disappears and the brass turns dark, the item must be removed, rinsed with water, wiped and dried. As a rule, 10 minutes is enough to completely clean the brass from old stains.
  3. When none of the above methods helps, use oxalic acid in its pure form. Wear gloves, goggles, a bathrobe and a mini-respirator to protect yourself to the maximum and not breathe volatile vapors. Take a bandage or gauze, fold in 6-7 layers, soak in acid, wipe the brass product. Leave on for 1 minute, then immediately wash off under a tap using liquid soap or shower gel. Wipe dry with a soft cloth, dry with a hairdryer or in a natural way.

Acetone

 Acetone for brass cleaning
There are several variations of cleaning brass in this way. The first involves the use of pure acetone, it is enough to moisten the swab in the solution and wipe the product well. The second is the use of nail polish remover, which includes acetone. In this case, it is necessary to soak the object in the solution, cover with a film or a lid and leave for a quarter of an hour. At the end of the period, you can rinse the brass with boiled water or leave it in a treated condition. In all cases, you need to wear gloves to protect your hands.

Specialized products

Purchase brass cleaning products at a hardware store or a large hypermarket. The most common of them is considered to be "Metal Cleaner" and "Business". In cases where it was not possible to find such tools, use formic or nitric acid, ammonium carbonate in the form of a solution with ammonia. In all the listed options, the technology of use is identical: wear protective gloves, goggles, respirator, moisten a cotton pad or cotton napkin in the tool, and wipe the brass well.

Before using the hard methods of cleaning brass use sparing means. These include ketchup, yogurt, nail polish remover, lime, a mixture of lemon and salt, vinegar or flour.
